2020 is sneaking up on us! If you haven’t already, it’s a good idea to put your dental insurance plan to good use before the year ends. If your plan is like most, it will reset on 1/1, so if you don’t use it before the calendar year comes to a close, you may be wasting your money.
The National Asociation of Dental Plans reports that only 2.8% of PPO dental plan members hit their maximum each year, so it’s highly likely that you still could get some mileage out of your plan.
Ways You Can Use Your Dental Plan
- Your 6-Month Check-Up & Cleaning: Most dental insurance plans will pay for two yearly check-ups 6-months apart. Keep in mind, going for your cleaning and checkup may not be your favorite thing to do, but it can save you money since it prevents larger issues that could be more costly to fix.
- Schedule Larger Treatments: If you have a larger dental procedure, waiting until the end of the year is actually a smart way to tackle it. This is especially true if you haven’t met your deductible yet, since it means the likelihood of you incurring an out-of-pocket expense is lessened.
Things to Remember
- Dental Problems Get Worse When Left Untreated: It may seem like sweeping your oral health issues under the rug is the best way to ease your worry, but make no mistake, the oral issue will worsen if you let it go.
- Prevention is the Best Way to Save Money: If you’re avoiding your bi-annual checkups, you should know that this could be costing you money in the long run. Regular check-ups and cleanings are one of the best ways to prevent dental issues, and to catch them early when they come up.
